Can I Charge My Genesis At A Tesla Charger?

When you drive an electric vehicle, one of the most important things that most drivers want to know is where they can charge it up. We often get asked if Genesis EVs can be charged at Tesla chargers. These chargers have popped up everywhere at grocery stores and gas stations, so it’s a valid question.

Tesla Chargers & Genesis EVs

The short answer is that, while Tesla chargers were designed specifically for Tesla EVs, EV models in the Genesis lineup are compatible with Tesla charging stations, with some considerations.

To utilize the Supercharger network that Tesla has created, Genesis EV owners will have to use a North American Charging Standard (NACS) adapter, since Tesla chargers are equipped with a proprietary charging connector that is different from the Combined Charging System (CCS1) port that Genesis vehicles use.

It’s important to note that if your Genesis vehicle was purchased on or before January 31st, 2025, you are eligible to receive a complimentary NACS adapter, which allows you to charge your Genesis at any one of the 45,000 charging stations in the Tesla Supercharger network.

Charging Speeds

When using a Tesla Supercharger for a Genesis EV, the charging speed will vary depending on the Supercharger’s power and the specific Genesis model’s battery capacity.

Some Superchargers deliver 250 kW, but this may be less depending on the maximum that your specific EV can accept. Other factors that affect the charging time include the ambient temperature outside, the battery’s state of charge, and the vehicle’s charging configuration.

Genesis’ Future Plans

By 2026, Genesis plans to transition all of its electric vehicles to use NACS ports, which means that future models will not need the adapter to be compatible with Tesla Superchargers.
