2025 Genesis G70 vs 2024 Mercedes Benz C-Class
It’s easy to make a car look the part, but those who know better understand the importance of quality, comfort, and convenience over just looks alone. Genesis effortlessly delivers everything on a silver platter, from smooth handling to advanced tech and more in the new G70. Mercedes did a fine job of making the new C-Class appear stunning, but under the hood is a completely different story.
Performance
Our best advice? Don’t just accept what’s given to you. You reserve the right to demand what you want, and that’s why Genesis offers 4 distinct variations of the G70 to appease your wants and needs. The 2.5T engine option delivers up to 300 horsepower, and the 3.3T engine elevates that to 365 horsepower. Both engine options are available in rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive, for a total of 4 distinct powertrain combinations. The inclusion of Brembo brakes equates to smoother stops, and 5 drive modes allow you to adjust your drive to the current driving conditions.
The new Mercedes Benz C-Class only comes with a 2.0L engine delivering a mere 255 horsepower. How can you feel like you’re living the good life when your only engine option is equal to that of a low-end performance car? With no available upgrades other than AWD, we find it hard to get excited driving the C-Class despite the high-end label.
Safety Features
What does safety look like in the new Genesis G70? Being a rather powerful sedan, it’s equipped with the precautions you need to feel safe during every drive from regular routes to spontaneous pleasure cruises. Smart Cruise Control helps monitor your path and adjusts automatically, the Surround View Monitor gives you a bird’s-eye view of every side, Intelligent Speed Limit Assist helps you stay within range for your safety, and the collision avoidance sensors work overtime to help keep you from making an impact. As always, you will still have Lane Keep Assist and Blind Spot View Monitor in the G70, keeping you on track and away from potential dangers that are normally out of sight.
The C-Class continues to underwhelm us with its lack of options in the safety department. Automated Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection is already a given, even in many non-luxury sedans. Lane assist features and adaptive cruise control are surprisingly optional, which feels like a crime in a high-end car that you’re paying a premium for. There’s a PRE-SAFE feature that comes standard, but the nature of this system is quite controversial. When the C-Class detects a possible collision, it will automatically tense up the seat belts, roll up the windows (including the sunroof), and lock up the glass and doors. This was designed to help passengers in the event of a car crash, but there’s much speculation as to how safe this feature really is. Are you willing to put your safety at risk for something that can potentially do more harm than good?
Interior
Whether you stick with the standard leatherette seats or upgrade to premium Nappa leather seating surfaces, the new G70 looks good no matter how you style it. Adding real aluminum paneling certainly won’t hurt, and the available 15-speaker Lexicon Premium Audio System takes music listening to new heights with subwoofers installed under the front seats. Screen real estate is also great with a standard 10.25-inch infotainment center and 8-inch digital gauge cluster. Create the perfect tech-friendly setup with an available Qi-compatible wireless charging pad, and you’re ready to go for every trip that comes your way!
The Mercedes C-Class certainly doesn’t carry as much suave as its competitor. Wood paneling may seem nice at first, but it can quickly lose its luster and be a pain to maintain. It comes standard with an 11.9-inch infotainment screen which may seem great at first until you find out that it’s a vertical setup which can feel less intuitive than a traditional horizontal screen. There’s a Burmester speaker upgrade, but who would want to pass up the crisp, clear sound of Lexicon? With every interior aspect, the Genesis G70 is always a step ahead.
Bottom Line
For a luxury sedan that looks stunning and is built with quality and convenience in mind, the new 2025 Genesis G70 simply makes sense. It has the flashy appearance that Genesis is known to deliver, plus it offers incredible powertrains and a cushy interior. The Mercedes Benz C-Class may be dressed for the job it wants, but it fails to deliver the same exceptional quality of Genesis.
